Integrated Psychedelics

What Is Integrated Psychedelics?

Integrated Psychedelics is a harm-reduction–based counseling practice focused on helping individuals process and integrate the emotional, psychological, and spiritual material that arises from psychedelic experiences. It’s grounded in compassion, safety, and attunement with the belief that healing unfolds when needs are expressed rather than suppressed, and explored rather than observed from afar.

This work supports individuals in turning moments of expanded awareness into grounded insight. Sometimes that means integrating a difficult or confusing journey. Other times it means preparing for a future one with mindfulness and intention. Whether we are working with sober states or altered ones, my role is to listen deeply, help regulate the nervous system — sometimes through language, sometimes through silence or sound — and translate experience into lasting change at a pace your system can truly digest.

While much of this work involves psychedelic preparation and integration, I also offer ongoing therapeutic counseling for those seeking similar depth and support without the use of medicine. Different paths, same commitment to awareness and transformation.

Who I Am

I am a counselor, psychedelic guide, and therapeutic DJ with over 30 years of musical immersion and 15 years of clinical experience in addiction and mental health counseling. My work bridges the worlds of electronic music, experiential psychotherapy, and psychedelic-assisted healing — blending intuition, structure, and care.

My Path to Psychedelic Therapy

My path began in the early 1990s electronic music underground of New York City, where I performed and produced under the name Matthew Magic. As co-founder of Tsunami Productions, I helped introduce psychedelic trance culture to the North American East Coast and later went on to run the techno label Railyard Recordings.

For decades, I witnessed how music could open emotional doors, dissolve barriers, and guide people into altered states of connection and catharsis. But over time, I felt called to work with those same states in a deeper, more intentional way.

I stepped away from nightlife to pursue professional training in counseling at Loyola Marymount University, becoming CADC-II certified through CCAPP. I went on to provide over ten years of individual and group counseling to people navigating substance abuse, trauma, grief, and co-occurring disorders, learning firsthand how resilience and vulnerability coexist.

The Return to Psychedelics

In 2015, after many years away from psychedelic use, I had a profound healing experience with psilocybin mushrooms. That moment catalyzed a full integration of my two worlds, music and therapy.

Since then, I’ve dedicated my work to supporting others through psychedelic preparation, journey facilitation, and post-experience integration. What began as a personal experiment evolved into a full-time practice.

The Psychedelic DJ Approach

Through Integrated Psychedelics, I developed Therapeutic DJing — a structured approach that unites music, psychology, and altered states into an intentional pathway of healing. It includes:

  • Therapeutic Music Curation

Designing cutting edge playlists that align with the emotional and energetic phases of a journey and the needs of each client

  • Psychedelic Soundtracking

Adjusting music in real time to support client’s inner landscape, emotional processing and spiritual emergence

  • Integration Counseling

Applying Gestalt and somatic-based techniques to turn insights into grounded change

My book, The Psychedelic DJ: A Practical Guide to Therapeutic Music Curation and Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy, shares this methodology and more in full.

Attunement as a Core Value

Whether I’m holding space as a counselor or guiding someone through music, my role is one of attunement. I see myself as one prong of a tuning fork and the client or listener as the other — listening, adjusting, resonating until there’s harmony between what is felt, needed, and expressed.

Even in music selection, I’m not just choosing tracks, I’m listening for frequency, pacing, and emotional resonance. Techniques like harmonic mixing may be considered advanced in DJ culture, but to me they’re essential in therapy and in life. When two keys align, the nervous system relaxes. The mind and body open. Something shifts.

Attunement, whether verbal or vibrational, is what makes the process safe enough to soften, surrender, and change.

My Commitment

My work is grounded in harm reduction, awareness, and deep respect for the psychedelic process. I do not glamorize these experiences or treat them as cures, I hold them as sacred and transformative when approached with preparation and integrity.

I believe music can serve as co-therapist, guide, and mirror, and that healing happens not only in peak moments, but in how we return afterward.
